The Yemeni Dental Association (YDA) is the legally mandated professional body responsible for regulating the practice of dentistry in the Republic of Yemen. We are committed to ensuring the highest standards of oral healthcare for the community by verifying that every practitioner meets the required educational, ethical, and professional standards.

Our licensing system works to protect public trust and ensure the competence and professionalism of all registered dentists.

Section 1: Application for a License to Practice (First-Time Applicants)

Obtaining a License to Practice

This is the official pathway for individuals seeking a license to practice dentistry in Yemen for the first time. This includes:

  • New graduates from Yemeni universities.
  • Yemeni dentists who have earned their degrees from outside the Republic.
  • Non-Yemeni dentists wishing to work in Yemen (in accordance with regulatory guidelines).

Application Requirements:

  1. Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Dental and Oral Medicine and Surgery (or its equivalent) from a recognized university, certified by the official authorities in Yemen.
  2. Internship Year: Successful completion of the approved post-graduation internship program.
  3. Required Documents:
    • Original university degree (for verification) along with a certified copy.
    • Original internship completion certificate (for verification) along with a certified copy.
    • Certificate of Good Standing from the university (for new graduates).
    • A recent Police Clearance certificate (Certificate of No Criminal Record).
    • Copies of National ID (for Yemenis) or Passport with a valid residency permit (for non-Yemenis).
    • Recent passport-sized photographs (Size [e.g., 4×6 cm]).
    • (For foreign graduates) A Certificate of Equivalency from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Application Steps:

  2. Submit the completed form, all required documents, and the processing fees to the YDA headquarters or its branches in the governorates.
  3. The Licensing and Professional Affairs Committee will review the application and verify all documents.
  4. A license is granted after all conditions are met and the applicant’s eligibility is confirmed.

Section 2: Annual License Renewal

Annual License Renewal

The license to practice is an annual permit and must be renewed to ensure the continuation of legal practice.

Renewal Requirements:

  • Membership: The dentist must be a registered member of the YDA and have paid all annual dues.
  • Continuing Education: To ensure our members stay current with the latest scientific and practical advancements, renewal requires the completion of a specified number of accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours annually.
  • Professional Record: The dentist’s record must be free of major professional or ethical violations.

Renewal Process:

  • The annual renewal period is typically announced in [e.g., December] of each year.
  • Renewals are processed by [e.g., visiting the YDA headquarters or its branches], bringing the previous license card and proof of CME hours.

Section 3: Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The Yemeni Dental Association believes that learning is a lifelong process. CME is mandatory for all registered dentists to ensure they maintain their competence and develop their skills.

What counts as CME?

  • Attending scientific conferences and workshops accredited by the YDA.
  • Participating in specialized training courses.
  • Presenting research or lectures at scientific events.
